About
We love Cardiff - and want to tell its story.
Proper Cardiff News is the Welsh capital's quality news outlet, delivering in-depth investigations, features and analysis direct to readers' inboxes.
Local journalism is more important than it has ever been. We all need to understand what is really going on in our local area.
Unfortunately, local news has seen relentless cuts over the last two decades. This means that stories affecting our communities are increasingly told by groups with ill intentions, leaving us all exposed to misinformation. It can also mean the place we’re proud to call home is represented in a negative light.
That’s why we’ve created Proper Cardiff News.

Who's behind Proper Cardiff News?
Proper Cardiff News was created by former Western Mail editor Catrin Pascoe and political journalist Will Hayward. With a combined near-40 years award-winning experience working as journalists in Wales, Will and Catrin felt it was becoming clear that Wales' capital needed a strong independent news outlet that did things a bit differently. Proper Cardiff News was born.
Setting up shop in a small office in a red-brick former malt factory in Splott, Catrin and Will brought on journalist Marcus Hughes as editor and investigative journalist Conor Gogarty to form the central writing team.
These are (hopefully) the first of many reporters we are hoping to hire. The more subscribers we get, the more journalists we can take on.
